The South Yorkshire Police Band under MD Leigh Baker are building impressively towards the Yorkshire Regional Championships in a few weeks time.
Sights
The band recently came 3rd at the Butlins Mineworkers Championships in Skegness and now have a place at Harrogate and the Lower Section National Finals firmly in their sights.
New players
The band has recently welcomed some new cornet players to help them in their task, with Sam Fisher (ex Brighouse, Grimethorpe and Frickley Colliery ) appointed principal cornet and Sonja Runagle (from Gresley Band in the Midlands) joining on solo trombone alongside the talented 14 year old trombonist Harry Read from Dronfield.

Soul return
Jeff Evason, a former Sellers, Rockingham and Wingates player, now performing in a busy soul band has kindly stepped in for the Yorkshire Regionals after a banding break of 12 years.
The band also welcomed Craig Whitehead (ex Pennine Brass and Holme Silver)on flugel, with April Farthing taking a solo cornet role alongside Lindsey Newbould who joins from Hatfield and Andy Fox (ex Frickley) on solo Eb Bass. Former horn soloist Mark Taylor (now resident in Gloucester) also returns to help the band in Bradford.
