Tredegar conducted by Ian Porthouse has won the Yeovil Entertainment title for a sixth time.

Top Drawer

With a performance from the early number 2 draw that was described by adjudicator Dennis Wilby as 'top drawer', they took the £2,000 first prize by a single point margin from fellow Welsh rival's BTM, with Londoner's Aveley & Newham showing an encouraging return to form by coming third.

Programme

Tredegar's winning programme started with a new composition by their composer in residence Matt Hall entitled, 'Activate', before they featured the first of their two soloists with trombonist Steven Sykes in 'I Love's you Porgy'.

Philip Wilby's 'Swinging Matilda' followed before flugel horn player Zoe Hancock played 'Ellin Vannin'. The band finished their programme with 'America' and Howard Snell's arrangement of 'Folk Festival.'

Dennis Wilby was full of praise for the winners, describing their dynamic contrasts as 'stunning' in his written remarks, which he summed up with '...a fine programme of high quality'4BR
