Barry's Butlins bonanza

4BR talks to composer Darrol Barry following the announcement that five of his works are to be used at Butlins in 2011.

4BR has spoken exclusively to the Oman based composer Darrol Barry, after it was announced that five of his works will be featured as the test pieces at the 2011 Butlins Mineworkers Championship.

Detail

Darrol talks in detail about each of the featured works; 'Contrasts', transcribed from the original wind band format for the Fourth Section, 'Hungerford Town', which will be used in the Third, 'Rise of the Phoenix' for the Second Section and 'Granite Variations' for the First.

Inspiration

He also talks about the inspiration behind the Championshp Section test piece, 'Requiems', which was written in 2002, but has since been amended to incoportate two new movements.
