Nelson to die at Salford!

The Mortimer Centre is to provide a free seminar late this month on a neglected piece of brass band history — The Death of Nelson.

 

The Mortimer Centre at Salford University to getting ready to provide an uniqueoutsider's experience and perspective on one of the lost gems of brass band repertoire.

Recital and lecture

On Thursday, 21st January between 2.00pm — 3.00pm at the Band room, Adelphi Building, University of Salford, a free lecture and musical recital will take place led by Professor Ron Holz, who will focus on the work of the Universities historic music archive, the Mortimer Centre.

It will feature a demonstration of one piece preserved in the archive and probably not heard since the 1880's — 'The Death of Nelson'4BR

Archive

The archive is an important source of information to academics and band specialists from all over the world, whilst Professor Holz is a leading authority in the area and has made a number of visits to the centre in order to inform his own research.

He is considered one of the world's leading authorities on the literature, culture, and history of the brass band.
