Percussion soloist Dave Danford will be visiting Birmingham Conservatoire later this month to perform in an evening concert with the college brass band.
Bourgeois works
The programme consists entirely of works by British composer Derek Bourgeois and features his 'Concerto for Percussion and Brass Band' which is a particular favourite of the percussion star:
I’ve been a strong supporter of Derek’s music ever since I performed his percussion concerto with the RWCMD Wind OrchestraDave Danford
Strong supporter
He told 4BR: "I’ve been a strong supporter of Derek’s music ever since I performed his percussion concerto with the RWCMD Wind Orchestra and the world premiere of 'The Tongs and the Bones' with Cory within a few weeks of each other."
He added: "The concerto has remained a personal favourite of mine, so much in fact that I included a version of the beautiful second movement on my first solo album, recorded in 2007."
Working together
Conducting the concert will be Ian Porthouse who Dave has worked with before.
"Ian was kind enough to support me on a number of occasions when I was first trying to establish myself as a soloist."
Dave will be rehearsing with the brass band at Birmingham Conservatoire in the week leading up to the concert.
