Over 90 brass players, ranging in age from 7 to 70, attended Minsthorpe Community College in South Elmsall last weekend for the annual Brass and Percussion Workshop run by the Yorkshire & Humberside Brass Band Association.
Popular
This ever popular event is sponsored by Grimethorpe Colliery Band and Wakefield Metropolitan District Council, and benefits from the excellent tutorship of many of the Grimethorpe principal players plus Ray Sykes from Carlton Main Frickley.
Varied
The course was led by Alan Morrison who chose a varied programme of music, whilst the students had the opportunity to accompany euphonium star Michael Dodd on 'Grandfather's Clock'.
The day was hugely popular and included full band rehearsal followed by sectionals during which the tutors: Kevin Crockford and Alan Morrison, Arfon Owen, Mike Dodd, Gary MacPhee, Ray Sykes and John Watterson passed on their musical expertise with enthusiasm to the delegates.
The day culminated with a short concert of the music studied during the day for relatives and friends.
Facilities are excellent and with the help of such good tutors we met the challenge and we are going home enthused and looking forward to the next workshopCourse delegate
