The Stocksbridge Band is to undertake the ultimate full monty — and revert back to the bare bones of its origins
Full Monty
Although the band is perhaps more famous to the general public for its appearance in the film 'The Full Monty' it has in fact been around for over 100 years — founded in 1900 as Sheffield Recreation Band.
The band has enjoyed some great successes over the years, winning many titles and touring Europe and Australia but recently lost it’s permanent rehearsal facilities and has no sponsor.
I’m delighted to announce the relaunch of what was and still is a great band with it’s roots firmly in the Sheffield areaStocksbridge
Stripped
So in order to try and change things, raise it’s profile and attract players, sponsorship and a permanent base, the band has stripped off all its Stocksbridge identity and reverted back to it’s old name of City of Sheffield.
In doing so it has got a whole new look with new uniforms and a new website.
The band has had several names over the last century including being previously called City of Sheffield on two occasions.
Relaunch
Band chairman Julian Holling told 4BR: "I’m delighted to announce the relaunch of what was and still is a great band with it’s roots firmly in the Sheffield area. We intend to take the band from strength to strength and hope this completely new look will give us a real boost."
The band is celebrating the relaunch with a gala concert in Sheffield later this month and new MD David Holling commented: "We hope people from Sheffield and beyond will come and enjoy it so it’ll be a night to remember as we launch in a new direction."
Niagara
The band is currently based at the Niagara Sports and Social Club in Hillsborough and is very grateful for their help.
Julian Holling added: "Niagara have been really good to the band and is the place where our famous band club concerts take place. However we need a permanent home for the band and if anyone can help us with that please get in touch."
