It has been announced by Leyland Band that Musical Director Jason Katsikaris is to return to Australia after enjoying two years at the helm of the North West outfit.
Back home
Jason is moving back to his homeland after four years in Britain to resume his law career in Sydney.
After completing his conversion to practice in the UK, and recently being admitted in to the Roll of Solicitors, Jason has received a prestigious work opportunity, one that he told 4BR that he felt he couldn't turn down.
The last two years have been incredible. Leyland are a great bunch of characters and deserve all the success coming to themJason Katsikaris
Admirers
During his time in the UK, the personable Australian won admirers for his vitality and ingenuity, leading first, the BTM Band and subsequently Leyland, with increasing success.
Open return
In 2008 he steered Leyland back to the British Open after a five year hiatus by winning the Grand Shield, as well as bringing good results at major contests, including 4th place at this year's British Open.
Incredible
Jason told 4BR: "The last two years have been incredible. Leyland are a great bunch of characters and deserve all the success coming to them. They took a chance on me for which I will always be grateful and I'm going to follow their progress with immense pride."
Final apperance
Jason's final appearance with the band will be the 2010 RNCM Festival of Brass next February, although he hopes to return on a freelance basis if he can. "I'll be back in Britain some time in the future for a 'banding recharge' and to catch up with mates, that's for sure," he added.
Bright future
A Leyland spokesperson told 4BR: "We are very appreciative of all that Jason has brought to us, and will continue to work together to forge a bright future for the band in the remaining months before Jason's departure, starting with this weekend's CD recording of Simon Dobson and Kenneth Hesketh works."
