Elland Silver Band has announced that legendary cornet player and former conductor of the Jayess Queensbury Band, James Shepherd will conduct them at the Yorkshire Area Regional Championships in March next year.

Huge difference

Competing in the Third Section, the band will play 'Labour and Love' and are aiming to qualify for the National Finals and gain promotion back to the Second Section.

Band Secretary, Kathleen Harrison told 4BR: "Jim has been working with the band since September and has already made a huge difference. This is fantastic opportunity for all members to learn from one of the best."

Thanks and welcome

In addition the band would welcome Gerry Simpson, Mick Silson and Jeffrey Bailey to the cornet section and Jeram Stead on Euphonium.

The band has thanked former conductor Phil Shaw for his dedication over the last two years.
