The evening of Saturday 3rd October was down in Trevor Hounsome’s diary as a long-awaited reunion of past members of the Enderby Bands.
Secret
Little did the Musical Director of the Enderby Youth Band realise though that in addition to a successful reunion, with a packed room full of past and present players, the evening had in fact been secretly organised as a celebration of his 25 years of service to the Enderby Bands.
Trevor joined Enderby from the Kettering Gold and Silver Band, and has given unfailing service to the organisation.
As we planned, Trevor was completely taken by surprise – but he fully deserved this recognition and all the compliments that have been paid to himDavid Stanley
Loyalty
Tribute was paid to his loyalty and devotion, as well as to his musicianship, by Garry Sleath, another legend of the Enderby Band, and currently MD of Wigston Band.
Anecdotes of Trevor’s banding exploits were then related by Chris Stanley, and Vanessa Hounsome, following which presentations were made to Trevor, and a celebratory cake was cut.
Reunion Band
Earlier in the evening the Enderby Youth and Senior Bands joined forces to present a short concert, whilst to wind up the evening, an impromptu band was formed of past and present players, and immediately christened the ‘Enderby Reunion Band’.
Conducted by Garry Sleath, and with Trevor on solo cornet, they gave enthusiastic, if not always completely accurate, renditions of many brass band favourites, finishing with a rousing version of ‘The Floral Dance’.
Deserved
Dave Stanley, one of the organisers of the event, told 4BR: "As we planned, Trevor was completely taken by surprise – but he fully deserved this recognition and all the compliments that have been paid to him."
