Dodworth Colliery has announced that their Principal Cornet player Josh Green has embarked on a new career as a musician in the Royal Marines.
Aged 10
Josh has played with Dodworth since the age of 10 and had just taken up the principal cornet chair in January when he helped the band take 3rd place at the Butlins Mineworkers Contest.
Josh comes from a banding family: His Mum played horn with Old Silkstone, and his Dad is on the front row at the band.

Send off
There was a good send off for Josh with a surprise party held at Dodworth Miners Welfare Club, where friends, family and fellow band members wished him Bon Voyage!
Josh hasn't said goodbye for good though as he has promised to return to Dodworth in his holiday breaks from the Marines.
Credit
Dodworth’s MD, Eliot Darwin presented Josh with an engraved hip flask as a momento from the band. He told 4BR: "This young man has been a credit to Dodworth as both a player and person and I’m sure will do both himself and the band proud as he takes up his new career as a musician in the Royal Marines."
