It's been a year of satisfaction so far for Skelmanthorpe.
New players
New players who have arrived, including Charmian Gott (baritone) and Helen Turnbull (front Row), both from the former YBS Band, Sian Linney (flugel) from Hepworth, Laura Brown (solo horn) from Yorkshire Imps and Dave Lindley (2nd cornet) from Stocksbridge.
Calibre
Musical Director, John Roberts told 4BR: "It's great that we are able to attract this calibre of player. Earlier in the year we also attracted John Turnbull on percussion from Rothwell Temps, Dave Turnbull on cornet from Meltham and Paul Thewlis on trombone from Horbury. Its been great to see so many quality players arriving around the stand."

Pleased
He added: "We've seen a few players leave for relocation purposes, but we've quickly filled the empty seats so this hasn't stopped the band's musical progression. I'm pleased with the level of performance and committment that we are achieving."
The band has expressed its thanks to Owen Watson, Clare Daws and Will Carter who all moved at various different stages during 2009 for work or relocation purposes.
Satisfying
The results this year have included qualification to the Grand Shield for 2010, a highly credible 6th Place at the Yorkshire Regional Championships, and victories at Holmfirth and Silkstone.
"It's all very satisfying at Skelmanthorpe at the moment!" concluded John.
