The death has been reported of Brian Higgins who has died quietly and peacefully at his home in Bristol.

Founding father

Brian was regarded as the founding father of the Stanshawe Band, which later became the Sun Life Band. Brian forged the support and interest in creating a band in the Bristol area some three years preceding the band's actual formation in 1969.

Sponsorship

Brian also provided a permanent bandroom and the Eastville Social Club to generate much needed funds through the early years of the band and arranged the band's first sponsorship from the developer of the Stanshawe Estates.

David Alderman told 4BR: "Without him there would have been no band."
