Wantage at the double!

Members of Wantage Band were recently put through their paces by the Army — including a bomb burst!

Wantage

Last Sunday, 67 members of the Wantage Band attended a 'Marching Workshop' given by the Band of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) at their Arborfield headquarters near Reading.

With players from Wantage's training, youth, concert and contesting bands, a full range of ages and experience were represented.

We were honoured that the full REME band turned out to provide a super display that showed us all how it should be doneWantage Band

Bomb burst

A spokesperson from the band told 4BR: "Instruction was given in playing a march, in marching in step, then both together. The players were taught the techniques of starting, stopping, counter-marching, wheeling — and the 'bomb burst', a special display."

Honoured

They added: "We were honoured that the full REME band turned out to provide a super display that showed us all how it should be done. Finally we were all treated to an excellent barbecue.

Our great thanks go to the officers and players of the REME band for putting on such a great Workshop."
