Death of Shirland stalwart

The death has been announced of Nigel Carlisle of the Sgirland Welfare Band.

Shirland Welfare Band has announced the death of their Band Chairman Nigel Carlisle.

Sadly Nigel lost his two year battle with cancer on Tuesday 15th September.

Nigel's association with Shirland Band spans back 42 years when he joined as a young learner. He grew up with the band and played Euphonium for the old Shirland Miners Welfare Band.

Richard Whittle told 4BR: "In 1999 Nigel was one of the founder members of Shirland Welfare Training Band and played a huge organisational part in its early years. Nigel had been the band's Chairman throughout that time until his death."

The Funeral will take place at South Normanton Church at 11am on Friday 25th September.
