The Scottish Brass Band Association has appointed its first Press Officer.

Raising the profile

The post has been filled by journalist Allison Hunter who has worked for a number of newspapers in the West of Scotland, and was press officer for the famous Glasgow Pavilion Theatre for a time.

The 56 year old who lives with her journalist husband James and two daughters in Langbank, Renfrewshire will be responsible for raising the profile of the association and promoting its up and coming youth bands.

The appointment of Allison is one of the most significant initiatives we have undertakenSBBA President, George Burt

Looking forward

Allison told 4BR: "A chance meeting with a member of the association earlier this year revealed they were in need of a better publicity machine and hopefully I can do that for them.

"Although my instrument of choice is the violin I have always loved brass bands and look forward to attending the many events they hold throughout the year."

Allison was also a member of the Glasgow Phoenix Choir for some years.

Significant

SBBA President George Burt added: "The appointment of Allison is one of the most significant initiatives we have undertaken.

"With the renaissance of brass bands in Scotland, especially youth bands, we will now be enabled to publicise the huge benefits of brass bands to society."
