The Beaumaris Band recently sent no fewer than four members to the National Youth Brass Band of Wales course held in Bangor at the end of July.
Award winner
Gwyn Owen (solo cornet), Bronwen Evans (repiano cornet), Sion Whithers (2nd cornet) and Bethan Evans (EEb Bass) enjoyed themselves with Gwyn picking up the 'John Childs Award', given by the tutors, for most promising individual on the course.
A delighted Gwyn Evans (MD of Beaumaris) attended the concerts at St Asaph Cathedral and at the PJ Hall in Bangor.
The benefit of being a member of such a fantastic ensemble is invaluable, and when the players return to their local bands this can rub off on other youngstersMD, Gwyn Evans
Proud
He told 4BR: "I felt very proud to see our youngsters perform with the NYBBW. The band encourage all of our youngsters, who have reached the required standard, to audition. The benefit of being a member of such a fantastic ensemble is invaluable, and when the players return to their local bands this can rub off on other youngsters."
Policy
Beaumaris’ strong youth policy has been a major driving force throughout the bands success over recent years.
Many members are also involved in area and county ensembles, and dedicate many hours weekly to their enjoyment of music. With two training bands and a youth band it seems the future of the band certainly seems to be in capable hands!
