The Leyland Band has announced the appointment of Philippe Schwartz as their new principal euphonium.
Impressive career
Philippe’s musical career started at the Luxembourg Conservatoire and he recently graduated with first class honours from the Royal Northern College of Music, achieving a perfect score for his final Masters performance recital.
Since arriving in the UK, Philippe has had a busy performance schedule as a soloist and band player. He was the principal euphonium with Pennine Brass in his first year of college and had occupied the second euphonium seat at Grimethorpe since 2006, winning two National and two English National titles.

Cultured musician
MD Jason Katsikaris told 4BR: "I heard Philippe at his Masters recital and he was stunning. He is a cultured musician. Having recently performed with Leyland in concert, Philippe instantly established a rapport with the band."
Excited
Philippe remarked to 4BR: "I am extremely excited about the appointment and am very much looking forward to working with Jason and the band. I would like to thank Grimethorpe for all the experience they have given me over the years and for the support I have received upon announcing my departure."
Replacement
Philippe replaces Brenden Wheeler who has left the band to join the British Army as a musician.
He told 4BR that he hopes to rejoin the band some time in the near future, work permitting.
MD Jason Katsikaris commented: "Brenden’s contribution to the band since my appointment has been far reaching. He is one of the best musicians I have worked with and the finest bandsman. The band shares my sentiment in thanking him for everything he has done for the band over the past four years. We wish him well in the forces and hope to see him back at the band soon."
