4BR has been informed of the death of George Dawson who died on Wednesday 29th July, following a long illness.

Outstanding

George was an outstanding solo horn player and a member of the Crookhall Colliery and Ever Ready bands for over 50 years, serving both with great distinction.

Funeral

The funeral service was held at the Methodist Church in Consett on Monday 3rd August.

Ray Hutchinson from the Reg Vardy Band told 4BR: "We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to his wife Eunice, his son George Christopher, daughter Susan, son — in — Law Jason and grand children at this very sad time."
