The amazing success of Dan Price’s ‘American Tale’ has seen the breathtaking concert finisher break all new sales records for Prima Vista Music around the world.
Around the globe
Written for the Cory Band and played as part of their winning 2008 Brass in Concert programme, it has since become one of Prima Vista’s best sellers, with bands around the globe taking the opportunity to showcase it both on the contest and concert stage.
After its winning premiere with Cory at The Sage last November, it has since been played as part of winning contest programme’s in Scotland and Holland.
Contest success
The Kirkintilloch Band used it to fine effect in winning the prestigious West Lothian Entertainment title recently, whilst Brass Band Heist, utilised the piece to take the First Division World Championship title in Kerkrade.
Meanwhile, World and European Champions Cory used the piece once again to form the exciting finale to their 125th Anniversary Concert that featured the talents of trombonist Wycliffe Gordon.
Each of the songs is scored in a psuedo-compositional style of an American composer including John Philip Sousa, Aaron Copland, Charles Ives and Leonard BernsteinPrima Vista Music
Concerts
In addition, it has been used again in concert with the National Youth Band of Wales on their current course and will form a central part of the week long International Summer School in Swansea, where students from all over the world will enjoy performing it.
The piece has already been taken up by bands in Australia and New Zealand and the USA itself.
Enhanced
The piece can be enhanced by clever use of projected images that reflect the musical storyline that draws inspiration from the American Civil War period.
The work includes famous pieces such as 'The Battle Hymn of the Republic', 'The Girl I Left Behind', 'Kingdom Come', 'Yankee Doodle Dandy', 'The Soldiers Return', 'Turkey in the Straw' and concludes with 'Amazing Grace' — a song synonymous with the abolition of slavery and selected to conclude the work as a reflection of the war's primary goal.
