Death of Strabane President

The death of Michael Boyle has been announced.

4BR has been informed of the death on Wednesday, 17th June, of Michael Boyle, aged 80 years.

Stalwart

Michael was a brass band stalwart in the North West of Ireland and in his home town, Strabane. He was a player in the long established St Eugene's Band before going on to conduct.

Love

His love for teaching moved St Eugene's to the forefront of entertainment in the area and he took the band all over Ireland to play at celebratory marches, concerts, dances and religious services.

His love for brass music remained with him all through his life and was given the role of honourary president of Strabane Concert Brass.

Celebration

Michael's last conducting job was 5 years ago, joining Strabane Concert Brass on stage in their Silver Jubille Anniversary celebrations.

Strabane Concert Brass this year are celebrating their 30th Anniversary and will be dedicating some music to Micky at their special concert.

The band played at the funeral of Micky in St Mary's Church, Melmount on last Friday morning.

Micky will be greatly missed in the music circles of the North West of Ireland and further afield, and no more so than the members and friends of Strabane Concert Brass.
