One of the brass band movement’s most iconic works, Percy Fletcher’s, ‘An Epic Symphony’, has been announced as the set work for the 2010 All England Masters International Contest.
Old and new
The announcement, which reflects the contest’s policy of alternating old and new compositions, has been made by Philip Biggs and Richard Franklin, who also reveal that plans are well advanced for the 2010 event, which will take place at the Corn Exchange, Cambridge on Sunday 30th May 2010.
News of a new work for the 2011 contest will be released shortly.

Original
Epic Symphony was originally written for the National Championships in 1926.
It was subsequently used on numerous occasions at major contests, including the National and Open, although it has been subject to both cuts — the 1938 National decided to shave off part of the Heroic March and the British Open knocked off one complete movement in 1986 — and percussions additions.
