The contest was sponsored by the Daily Mirror Newspaper.

Prizes:

1st: £2,000 plus £2000 Guineas Gold Challenge Trophy, plus the Daily Mirror Trophy.
2nd: £1,250 plus the Frank Parker Memorial Cup.
3rd: £800
4th: £550
5th: £450
6th: £350

Each member of the winning band received a specially engraved certificate.

The winning band received a Sovereign cornet.

The Iles Medal was awarded to Denis Carr.

No bands lost their place for the 1983 contest.

August 22 • We require Bb Bass to complete our team for the forthcoming 4th Section Finals at Cheltenham Racecourse on Saturday 14th September Regular rehearsals are Wednesday 7.30 to 9.30 and Sunday 7 to 9 Rehearsals are our own band room in Shipston South Warwicks

August 22 • Bedford Town Band Concert Brass Band requires a Solo Trombone for this non-contesting arm of the Bedford Town Band organisation. We are a friendly and sociable band who has well attended rehearsals and a number of concerts scheduled over the year.
