Stanley Boddington was due to adjudicate, but was taken ill before the contest, and was replaced by Allan Street.

1st: £1,000 plus £2000 Guineas Gold Challenge Trophy.

The winning conductor also received a 1980 Gold Sovereign presented by "The Brass Band News".
The Soprano cornet with the winning band received Sovereign soprano cornet.
The Iles Medal was awarded to John R. Carr.
Webb Ivory (Newhall), Thoresby Colliery, Ransome, and Andrews Heat For Hire were not invited to the 1981 contest.
