A Gold Meadal valued at 2 Guineas was presented to each prize winning band, with every member of such a band winning the First Prize for three years being awarded an individual Gold Medal.

The test piece was cut for the contest in the Prelude and Minuet sections.

The winning band performed a short concert after the presentation of prizes that included a selection of their own choice plus a hymn tune.
