The first thing that struck us about the site was how well put together the whole package was. It’s neat and tidy with clean lines and good use of colour.
The home page features a very bold band emblem and a clear line up of choices of News, Meet the Band, History, Feedback and Links with some sub sections outlining events and contacts. There's also a neat piece of work to gives people the opportunity to air their views and to vote on what they would like to hear at a concert or on the next CD, the obligatory guestbook and a nicely advertised "Fairey's Tales" – the bands quarterly newsletter.
The News is up to date and is relevant, which is always important both to the brass band fanatic or the casual browser and the History page is brief and interesting, although there is no list of achievements, which is a pity. The band line up is also up to date and there is the welcome insertion of e-mail addresses for the players. No photos though or biographies of the leading principal players which is a disappointment.
The contacts page is very comprehensive and there is a first class events calendar for the whole year, that not only gives the dates and names of the venues the band will be appearing both in concert and at contests, but gives contact numbers for the venues themselves – excellent stuff.
The Links page features over 30 brass band sites in the UK, nearly 20 overseas and numerous additional sites such as one for Howard Snell - which is well worth taking the time to check out.
Overall we thought this to be one of the best sites we have come across and we congratulate Mr Yates on his skill and hard work. Some pictures of the band members would be nice and perhaps a list of the titles this famous band has won, but overall, like the band itself, this is top quality stuff. Check it out.
