On Friday 20th November, the Solent Area Fellowship Band presented a concert at North End Baptist Church, Portsmouth.
Variety
The band included a variety of items in the programme including, Dudley Bright’s March, “Assignment”, Barrie Gott’s Festival Arrangement, “Let There Be Praise”, Robert Redhead’s Suite, “Shout Salvation”, “The Blessing” (William Himes) and the Meditation, “Armadale” (Ray Bowes).
Individual items featured Dennis Rudd, the band’s Principal Cornetist who played Peter Graham’s “Glorious Ventures” and the band’s Principal Tenor Horn, Callam Carter, who played Derek Jordan’s arrangement of the Rondo – Mozart’s 4th Horn Concerto.
Dennis Rudd then joined with Aubrey Ford for a cornet and soprano duet, “The Cleansing Stream” (Erik Leidzen).
Seasonal items
The band also presented a number of seasonal items in the programme. These included, “Troika” (arr. Alan Fernie), “Yuletide Rag” (Richard Phillips), “Christmas Praise” (Noel Jones) and Robert Redhead’s Suite, “The Joy of Christmas”.
Reciprocal words of welcome and thanks were given by Rev’d Kieran Banks (Pastor, North End Baptist Church) and Bandmaster Chris Kennett.
Rev’d Banks also offered prayer, while Major Derek Smith read from Scripture.
The band concluded the concert by playing Keith Ketteringham’s arrangement of “St Clements”.
