All That Jazz
26-Nov-2008The Trusts Waitakere Brass
Conductor: Steven Booth
Saturday 22 November 2008
Saturday evening saw Waitakere Brass open the doors on their 2008 Jazz Mania concert.
The evening was as popular as ever, with over 250 guests enjoying a range of jazz music and other surprises as they wined and dined the night away.
As well as band features, the audience were treated to several soloist items, a champion jazz dancer and were entertained by John McGough in true caberet style.
Principal Cornet Carolyn Ramsbottom gave a rendition of Children Of Sanchez which had the audience captivated, while John McGough entertained the crowd with pieces including Georgia On My Mind and A Glen Miller Special , his character, talent and humour engaging the audience throughout the evening.
Another highlight, which showed the depth of talent in the band, was two vocal spots by Fraser Bremner and Kay Thiel who took a break from percussion so they could take up the microphone and show how versatile the players in this band.
First Fraser performed a Robbie Williams Medley and later in the program Kay, delivered a stunning performance of Big Spender which raised a few temperatures.
Credit must also go to compere Mark Haines, who kept the audience laughing throughout the concert, and the Massey High School Jazz Band for their top quality half time entertainment.
An enjoyable evening was had by all and this concert is proving to a be popular fixture on the band's calendar as it gets bigger and better each year.
