Last night, Camborne Town Band joined forces once again with the Redruth Amateur Operatic Society Trust Singers to perform a 'showtime' concert to a packed auditorium at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro. 

For a second year running the band welcomed the dynamic Richard Evans to Cornwall to conduct them and compere the evening. The RAOST Singers were accompanied and directed by their MD, Alastair Taylor, who was also MD of the special guests, the RAOST Youth Choir.

The band, who were set-up in an enlarged formation across tiered staging, opened the evening with Ray Farr's arrangement of 'Superman' which was followed by 'I Dreamed a Dream' arranged by Darrol Barry. 

The RAOST Singers then performed their MD's arrangement of 'Starmaker' from 'Fame' which was followed by 'California Dreamin' and 'May It Be' from 'Lord of the Rings'. Special guests for the evening, the RAOST Youth Choir then performed two medleys of the music from 'Mary Poppins' and 'The Wizard of Oz' which was followed by another set from their senior choir which included a solo performance by Jarrad Goldsworthy of Barry Manilow's 'Coca Cabana'.

The first half was ended with another set from the band which opened with an exciting arrangement of 'Ol' Man River' that featured the incredible kit playing of percussionist, Mark Arnold. Euphonium soloist, Robert Jose, then gave a wonderfuil performance of 'Be My Love' before the band brought the set to a close with the powerful 'March from The Pines of Rome' arranged by Howard Snell.

To open the second half, the singers performed three arrangements by their MD which included 'Oh, Happy Day' and 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight'. The band then took to the stage with a selection of film music, beginning with Ray Farr's arrangement of 'Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom'. 

This was followed by Sandy Smith's arrangement of 'Schindlers List' and R B Hall's march 'Death or Glory' from 'Brassed Off'. The Youth Choir then performed their last set which included You've Got a Friend in Me' from 'Toy Story' and 'My Heart Will Go On' from Titanic. They then performed their encore; 'Edelweiss' from 'The Sound of Music'.

The band then returned for their last set with Andrew Duncan's arrangement of 'Brave Heart' and Alan Catherall's arrangement of 'Batman' Following renditions of 'You Raise Me Up' and 'World in Union' by the RAOST Singers, they joined with the band to perform the last item; Karl Jenkins' 'Benedictus' from 'The Armed Man: Mass for Peace'.

The band congratulated Alastair Taylor and the RAOST Singers and Youth Choir on their excellent performances and thanked them for all their contributions to the evening. A huge thank you went also to Kevin Mackenzie who chose the band's programme and rehearsed it prior to Richard's arrival on Thursday. 

The band also had a fantastic time under Richard's direction and thanked him for working with them once again.
