David Bremner - Combined Workshop and Recital
Hartley Room – Elder Conservatorium of Music, Adelaide University.
Thursday 24 May 2007

David BremnerDavid Bremner – Principal Trombone of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra was in Adelaide between 23 May and 27 May as a guest of the South Australian Band Association.

The combined Workshop and Recital was arranged by Howard Parkinson, Head of Brass Studies, for the Elder Conservatorium of Music. Parkinson coincidently also happens to be the Principal Bass Trombone of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

The evening's event was in 2 parts. Firstly,  2 young students, completed Solo performances on Trombone, both accompanied by Piano. Their Solo performances were critiqued by David.

Sound advice was on offer for the students and the gathered audience. Deportment, posture and articulation were the aspects discussed at length.

Hardly a spare seat was on offer in the Hartley Room, which is a sizeable venue for performances.

After a short break, Bremner commenced a short recital featuring 4 well known works - Morceau Symphonique by Alexander Guilmant, Cavatine by Camille Saint Saens, Romance by Weber,  & The Blues Bells of Scotland by Arthur Pryor.

David Bremner was accompanied on piano by Dale Ringland.

This was a polished performance of the highest possible standard.

In the proceeding days David Bremner had conducted workshops in a variety of Adelaide Schools. Indeed, some 500+ students were exposed to the magic of the Trombone and a remarkable, personable and talented young man who left an impression with everyone whom came into contact with him.

There really should be more of this type of event and congratulations to the SA Band Association for their initiative in bringing David Bremner to Adelaide.
