Gresley Colliery and Gresley Colliery Youth Band gave a Concert with a difference on Saturday evening 14th October at Burton On Trent Town Hall, to a full sell out audience. The theme was ‘Film Music', whilst the evening also saw the launch of the band's new CD "Heritage".

The Gresley Colliery Band got the concert underway under their recently appointed MD Richard Grantham with ‘Men Of Harlech' following up with the zappy ‘Cartoon Classics'. It was then the turn of the bands solo euphonium player Karl Eames, who chose to play ‘Be My Love' initially made famous by Mario Lanza.  Karl showed why he is regarded as one of the best euphonium players in the Midland Area as the music flowed with passion and pride.

The band then turned to the music from the film ‘Chicken Run' and then with a change of mood to ‘For the Love Of A Princess' before they turned to the ubiquitous  "Brassed Off" with the trombone solo ‘Londonderry Air' played so well by Chris Smith.

The march ‘Death of Glory' was followed by the flugel solo ‘Concerto De Aranjuei' which was played by very well by Gary Horsley. To finish first half the band played a selection from Walt Disney films entitled ‘A Disney Fantasy'.

The second half saw Gresley Colliery Youth Band directed by Fay Bayliss, who showed they could match their senior colleagues with the same quality of playing. ‘Mood Indigo' was first up followed by ‘The Lion King'. Music from the film ‘Oliver' with ‘Food Glorious Food' paved the way for an enjoyable ‘Flintstones', and then music from the children's classic show ‘A Grand Day Out' from the Wallace & Gromit capers, and to finish there taxing high display with ‘Beyond The Sea'.

The Gresley Colliery Band then returned to the stage with ‘Born Free' and the trombone feature ‘I will Follow Him' from the film ‘Sister Act'. The band then played a John Williams selection with three pieces, from ‘Jurassic Park', ‘Hymn To The Fallen' and the finale from ‘Indiana Jones and The Temple Of Doom' to finish off a very enjoyable evening's entertainment.
