The BTM Band under Andy Duncan have been working hard promoting the music of Warner/IMP through a day long trip to the pictures.

On Sunday 25 July, Bedwas, near Caerphilly, was host to the second Warners/IMP brass workshop and concert.  The BTM Band offered an impressive level of performance and Andrew Duncan was the Musical and Brass Workshop Director for the day.
 
After an inspiring open rehearsal, in which a wide selection of the Warners/IMP brass band titles were run, the band was ready for the rest of the day's schedule.  The workshop that followed, this being the second out of a series of three planned events, had been organised as a way of providing local bands and arrangers an opportunity to hear the music whilst learning a little more from Andrew Duncan about its evolution into the brass band format.  To support the initiative, attendees were also offered the opportunity to add to their CD collection from the sales stand of World of Brass, and purchase titles from the full range of Warners/IMP brass band music from the sales stand of Just Brass.
 
The concluding concert brought many supporters to The Bedwas Workman's Hall for an evening of "Music of the Movies".  A stylish opening of Sykes' arrangement of John Williams' "Liberty Fanfare" set an impressinve standard for the rest of the concert, and the audience was not to be disappointed.  The programme included "Lord of the Rings"; "Born on the Fourth of July"; Farr's version of "Over The Rainbow" (beautifully presented by Trevor Isaac, Flugel); "Selections from Titanic" and a dramatic close to the first half with "Parade of the Charioteers". 

On return from the interval, the band were quick to grasp the audience's imagination with a varied collection of pieces, opening with "Phantom Menace Suite: Star Wars Episode 1"; a wonderfully atmospheric and a welcome contrast to the vivid music of Star Wars came with "For the Love of a Princess" from Braveheart; a lighthearted moment from "Cartoon Classics" was then followed by a toe-tapping "I'll Be There For You" (theme tune from 'Friends').  To placate the children (and adults alike!) "Scooby Doo" was well received and "Selections from Harry Potter" was impressively performed this late in the concert when lips must have been tiring. 

A loose link with the movie theme was made with a Robbie Williams title, but the well handled performance of "Angels" was worth overlooking any shift in theme direction!  The concert closed with a very thought-provoking and emotional rendition of "Reunion and Finale" (from Gettysburg).  The audience were delighted with their evening out and were further entertained when the band provided a stirring encore of "Soul Bossa Nova" (from Austin Powers).
 
All the titles performed throughout the day are part of the Warners/IMP supported series of brass band publications (including items from the Norwegian publishers, Norske Noteservice).  Demo discs, full recordings and further information about the above titles can all be obtained from Just Brass, who were the Warners/IMP music sales representative for the day.
