Calver retirement marked with presentation

One of the great stalwart members and supporters of the West of England brass band movement has stepped down after 23 years of outstanding service.

Fran Calver
Fran Calver has been a wonderful servant to West of England banding for many years

Fran Calver from St Breward in Cornwall has recently stepped down from West of England Brass Band Association (WEBBA) after 23 years dedicated service. Fran has been an integral part of the WEBBA team since 1996, and was Chairperson from 2002 to 2013 before taking on the Registrar duties.

Fran was presented with an engraved posy bowl by WEBBA Chairman John Woods, who recently paid tribute to her at the West of England Regional Championships in Torquay, where in her absence she was given a wonderful reception from the audience.

Support us for less than a cup of coffee...

4BR wants to ensure that the brass band movement remains vibrant and relevant. We also want to be able to question, challenge and critically examine those who run and play in it, producing high quality journalism that informs as well as entertains our readers.

So if like us you value a strong, independent perspective on the brass band world - then why not consider becoming a supporter and help make our future and that of a burgeoning brass band movement more secure.

So one less cappuccino then?
