Students of the University of Manchester and the Royal Northern College of Music have come together in a new brass collaboration — 'Vaganza Brass'.
First concert
Named after the University’s new music ensemble, 'Vaganza', the band first came together in March this year as part of the University’s 70th Birthday tribute to composer John McCabe, giving a performance of 'Cloudcatcher Fells' and 'Salamander' in the presence of the composer.
Now, given the success of their first outing, they are preparing for further concerts.

Under conductor and final year music student Adam Cooke, the group consists of some of the finest young brass players currently studying at both institutions — many of whom are alos players in championship banding around the North-West and Yorkshire areas.
Fantastic opportunity
Adam Cooke told 4BR: "This has been a fantastic opportunity to get together players from both the University and the RNCM to make music together."
Adam added: "We have players from the likes of Black Dyke, Leyland, Brighouse, Grimethorpe and Faireys to name only a few, so there is no shortage of talent within the band. With many of us studying daily not more than five minutes from each other, it’s a shame we haven’t done this sooner!
"It has been a truly enjoyable experience for all involved, and even more enjoyable to have the opportunity to work with such a talented bunch."
