After an encouraging start to 2009 the Timperely Band has vowed to make it through its current tough period that has seen the band drop out of the Spring Festival at Blackpool.
Consolidating
The band started the year consolidating its position in the North West Championship section coupled with significant progress behind the scenes.
Unfortunate
That optimism was sadly turned on its head recently however following a poor N/W Regional result. Over the weeks that have followed, there has been an unfortunate loss of players and difficulties to secure a suitable professional conductor.
It was rumoured that the band had been taken to the point of winding up, but a strong core of fifteen very good players have agreed to try and rebuild the band.
The band has a great organisational structure, many new instruments, new projects in the pipeline, patience and tenacity, but players are all that is required to get the band back on trackTimperley Band
Working hard
Band Chairman Gary Winson told 4BR: "It is a worrying commentary on our movement — the divide between apparent success and where we find ourselves now. We have always worked very hard on all fronts to achieve both a high musical standard and make the band enjoyable so players wish to stay, which makes the current situation very frustrating."
Determined
Gary reports that the remaining Timperley players are determined to stick it out despite continual offers to sign up elsewhere. Other bands such as Flixton have offered generous help and support.
Meanwhile, Paul Hindmarsh has stepped in to help the band through this difficult period whilst the band starts the rebuilding process.
Will not fold
Gary added: "Timperley want to make it absolutely clear they want to make sure the band does not become another loss to the movement and the second North West band to fold."
He added: "There is simply too much to lose. The band has a great organisational structure, many new instruments, new projects in the pipeline, patience and tenacity, but players are all that is required to get the band back on track."
