Two budding star performers will be representing Wales in the European Youth Brass Band gathering in Ostend, Belgium in the next week or so.
Welsh duo
The students will take part in a series of rehearsals alongside some of the best young players from all over Europe, and will perform on various occasions during the European Brass Band Championships.
BTM conection
The two young players, baritone Tim Jones and cornet player Kirsty Davies from the National Youth Brass Band of Wales also play for the BTM Band.

Final year
Tim is currently in his final year of a 3-year B(Mus) Music degree in Cardiff University and has held the solo baritone seat with BTM for a number of years.
Tim has been a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales since 2003, and has been Principal Baritone of the band for the last 3 years. He was awarded the title of Caerphilly County Young Brass Musician of the Year in 2006.
Music study
Meanwhile, Kirsty is now in her final year studying music at Cardiff University. She began her cornet playing in Pontypool Junior Band before spells with Cwmbran, Rogerstone and Abergavenny before joining BTM 2006.
For over 10 years Kirsty has been a member of many of the ensembles that Gwent Music Support Service provides and has won the Greater Gwent Youth Solo competition in 2006.
She has also represented Wales in The National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales in 2004 and has been in the National Youth Brass Band of Wales since 2002.
Delighted
Alex James, Welsh delegate to the European Brass Band Association told 4BR: "We are delighted that Tim and Kirsty will be representing Wales, as they are talented and musicians. Joining them in flying the flag and competing in the Championship are reigning Champions Cory Band’ and ‘Tredegar Town Band’. We wish both bands all the best and hope that the cup will again be coming home to Wales."
