EBBA has published the list of own choice selections made by the 11 competing bands at Ostend in May, as well as the list of judges who the bands will have to try and impress if they are to take the 2009 title.
Adjudicators
The adjudication panel this year will see Jan Hadermann of Belgium, team up with Franz Cibulka of Austria and Garry Cutt to judge the Championship Section test piece, ‘From Ancient Times’ by Jan Van der Roost, as well as the competing bands in the B Section.
The next day, Ray Farr, Blaise Heritier of Swizterland and Rob Goorhuis of the Netherlands will cast their ears over the own choice selections.
Own choices
This year there are 11 different choices and no repeats, with two bands bringing brand new works to the stage.
The impressive selections will see ‘Extreme Makeover’, ‘Harmony Music’, The Promised Land’, ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’, ‘Contest Music’, ‘Masquerade’, ‘Concerto Grosso’, ‘Music for Battle Creek’ and ‘Vienna Nights’ battle for glory with two new works – ‘Spirits of Puccini’ and ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants’.
’Spirits of Puccini’ has been written by Hermann Pallhuber, whilst ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants’ has been composed by Peter Graham.

Well known
Both composer’s are very well known to European banding audiences of course, although it will be interesting to see how many recognise the title from the Graham work as being usually seen on the rim of a British £2 coin, instead of Sir Isaac Newton’s famous quotation.
