Two conducting students from Durham University — Huw Thomas and Gareth Westwood, conducted Grimethorpe Colliery Band recently in a masterclass led by Ray Farr.

Works studied were the challenging 'Concerto Grosso' by Bourgeois and 'Spectrum' by Vinter.

Ray Farr told 4BR: "Both conductors commented that this was a fantastic experience and were thrilled to conduct such a wonderful band. It was, indeed, smiles all around!"
