Timperley build for future

A new conducting team of Mike Fowles and Roy Newsome are set to spearhead the ambitions of Timperley Brass in 2009 — with a little help form former YBS top man, Stuart Lingard.

After a successful 2008, Timperley Brass has been working on all
fronts to ensure a successful 2009.

Conducting duo

The band has confirmed the appointment of a new conducting team of Dr. Roy Newsome and Michael Fowles, who have agreed to prepare the band for the forthcoming North West Area Championships.

Vast experience

Band Chairman Gary Winson told 4BR: "Both conductors bring a vast amount of experience and talent to the band. Roy has been working with Timperley on ‘Salute to Youth’ and will hand over to Michael who will conduct the band at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool."

Top man

Meanwhile, Stuart Lingard, the former principal cornet of the YBS Band, will be leading the challenge on ‘Salute to Youth’.

He will be assisted by Richard Dines from Stavanger Brass Band who has agreed to join the band on bumper up.

Pleasing

Gary Winson added: "To have secured the services of both Stuart and Richard in these key positions for the contest is very pleasing.

"Both players bring much experience and have attracted considerable interest from other bands, so for them both to agree to perform with Timperley shows we have the right ethos and are heading in the right direction."

New signings

Other new signings include Matthew Fearn who joins from Fodens on repiano, Steve Taylor and Darren Wood who both from Stockport Brass.

Alex Kretzschmar, formerly of Fairey, joins on euphonium and Duncan Silcock joins on horn, which sees Jo Ashman moving to solo horn. Kirsten Broadhurst meanwhile joins on flugel and Matt Davis joins on percussion.

Delighted

Gary concluded: "The band is delighted to welcome all these new players and is looking forward to a successful 2009, and hoping to retain their North West Counties Brass Band Association Championship Band title for the current contest season."
