Mutiny inspires Elland Youth

Mutiny on the Bounty inspires Elland Youth to take honours at the recent Action Medical Research Championships.

Action Research

Elland Silver Youth Band recently enjoyed a bit of mutiny in the ranks — especially as it ended with them taking the runner up spot at the Action Medical Research Championships in Blackpool.

Inspiration

Inspiration for the bands production came from the 1935 classic film 'Mutiny on the Bounty'.

Mutiny

Murray Greig, the bands composer in residence arranged music to depict the musical journey and adventures of the crew, from setting sail, life on board ship, discovering new lands, a pirate encounter, an enchanting Moari Princess and finally the mutiny!

The whole band was dressed as pirates, naval officers, sailors and wenches, with the Captain the bands compere, Gordon Eddison.

The enthusiasm and team spirit was fantastic. Its been hard work but it was worth it, we’ve had so much funMD, Samantha Harrison

Captain

Dan Eddison, the bands solo trombonist was featured in 'What shall we do with the druken trombonist!', Philip Varley, the bands principal cornet player was featured in 'Tico Tico' and percussionist Sophie Greig, was featured as soprano vocalist in 'Hine e Hine'.

So much fun

MD Samantha Harrison told 4BR: "This is a fantastic achievement for such a young band. It’s a real credit to the young people and parents who over the past four weeks have put in some 30 hours of extra rehearsals at weekends. The enthusiasm and team spirit was fantastic. Its been hard work but it was worth it, we’ve had so much fun."
