Winter set for debut

Trumpet star Martin Winter will make his conducting debut at the Norwegian Nationals on the weekend.

After making his mark as one of the star performers at the Norwegian National Championships over the years, trumpet star Martin Winter will make his conducting debut at the contest in Bergen on the weekend.

Veteren band

Martin will take over the baton from Tormod Flaten and lead the "veteran" band, Tertnes Amatorkorps, in Section 1. Under Tormod's direction the band rose from the 4th to 1st Section in just 5 years, and they are now eager to secure their place as a competitive force at this level under Martin's direction.

Martin Winter and the band will perform the classic, Pageantry' by Herbert Howells as their own chocie selection at the contest.

The band has short weekly rehersals with long coffee breaks, and no extra rehersals before contests and concerts. The main focus is to play, have fun and meet good, old friendsGøril Nøkleby

Priority

Gøril Nøkleby told 4BR: "Tertnes Amatorkorps is a band where quite a few of the members used to play in Elite section bands, but family, children and work have made the day-to-day schedule change and banding is not on the top of the priority list any more.

"The band has short weekly rehersals with long coffee breaks, and no extra rehersals before contests and concerts. The main focus is to play, have fun and meet good, old friends."
