Grimethorpe hit the red tops

The ongoing Grimethorpe saga has now reached the red top newspapers...

Grimethorpe

The current unfolding story at Grimethorpe has now become national news, as reporters from those well known bastions of reporting integrity, the Daily Mirror and the Express on Sunday have waded in with their take on what has been happening.

Daily Mirror

A report by Paul Bryne in the Daily Mirror on the 26th January under the heading, 'Brassed off brother' — 'Manager sacks sibling from famous pit band' stated: "Two "Brassed Off" brothers are threatening the future of the world renowned Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

Roger Webster is quoted as saying: "Some people say I'm too aggressive and confrontational with Terry (Webster), but we've never been that close and some things need to be said. All we want is for the trustees to be honest and open."

Terry is said to have added: "Players come and go at Grimethorpe like a football team and that's all I have to say."

It seems there is an appetite in the Daily Mirror for stories that doesn't involve Celebrity Big Brother and the Express that doesn't involve the death of Princess Diana...4BR

Express on Sunday

Meanwhile under the heading "Band of brothers? Not at brassed off Grimethorpe" by Eugene Henderson in The Express on Sunday it is stated that "There is bitter discord in the band that inspired the hit movie 'Brassed Off'.

"However, it is now in turmoil after manager Terry Webster sacked his brother Roger, the principal cornet player, and his assistant Ian Shires."

Falling out

When asked if there had been a falling out with his brother, Terry is reported to have said: "That's a family matter. What goes on in the band room stays in the band room."

It seems there is an appetite in the Daily Mirror for stories that doesn't involve Celebrity Big Brother and the Express that doesn't involve the death of Princess Diana...
