Chronological Brown

Grimethorpe trombonist goes on a marathon of chronology to wow a musical audience.

Brown

Richard Brown, trombonist at Grimethorpe Colliery was recently joined by tuba star Ben Thomson and trumpeter Jamie O'Brien Trumpet in a 'chronological marathon' of chamber music for the Ackworth Concert Society.

From Mozart to Meechan

Performing to an audience of music society members, they presented a programme of trio works from composers of the Medieval Period, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven originally intended for very different instruments.

The intimacy of the trio aimes to create the potential for the same artistic and expressive freedom that a string or woodwind player may experienceRichard Brown

Enjoyed

Ben was also featured in Penderecki's 'Capriccio for Tuba', whilst Richard enjoyed himself on 'Floating Dreams' by Peter Meechan. Other works played by the trio featured the composers Debussy, Prokofiev and ending the evening with two songs by Gershwin.

Real pleasure

Richard told 4BR: "It's a real pleasure to be able to perform such great composers chamber music on brass. The intimacy of the trio aimes to create the potential for the same artistic and expressive freedom that a string or woodwind player may experience."
