Russell declines Leyland invite

Paula Russell has informed 4BR of her withdrawal from Leyland's recent invitation to fill its principal cornet seat.

Further to the press release from Leyland at the end of 2008, Paula Russell advised 4BR today of her withdrawal from the invitation to join Leyland as its new principal cornet.

I did not expect to receive any payment from Leyland for playing for the band, nonetheless, I feel that a one way air ticket was not a lot to expect in return for my willingness to make the adjustments in my life in Australia...Paula Russell, Australia

No Assistance

Paula told 4BR: "Having previously guested with the Desford Band last May as Principal Cornet at the 'Masters' (in return for my airfare expense) I expected, rightly or wrongly, that a similar assistance would apply to the Leyland invitation."

She continued: "I did not expect to receive any payment from Leyland for playing for the band, nonetheless, I feel that a one way air ticket was not a lot to expect in return for my willingness to make the adjustments in my life here in Australia, at relatively short notice, and travel back to the UK to fill the vacant Principal Cornet seat that had been offered to me at Leyland."

Paula added: "I do wish the players of Leyland Band every success for 2009."
