National Champions welcome back more returnees to the Point of Ayr fold, including John Hinckley at the helm for Welsh Area.

Point of Ayr Colliery Band continue to push forward after their successful return to contesting after their 7 year hiatus.

Strengthen the ranks

The band have continued to strengthen the ranks by welcoming some old and new friends around the stand.

John is no stranger to contest success and we are already working hard preparing for Brass at the Guild in Preston and then on to the Welsh AreaPoint of Ayr

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "We would like to take the opportunity to thank Peter Christian, Gwyn Evans, Michael Fowles and Mark Peacock for all their hard work throughout last year. We hope to have the opportunity to work with them all again in the future."

MD appointment

The band have announced that John Hinckley has agreed to direct the band initially up until the Welsh area contest in Swansea.

The spokesperson added: "We very much hope the relationship develops into a long and successful partnership. John is no stranger to contest success and we are already working hard preparing for Brass at the Guild in Preston and then on to the Welsh Area."

January 9 • Ibstock Brick Brass 3rd section are currently recruiting for a Principal Euphonium to complete our line up.. The band has a sensible programme of contests and concerts.. . Rehearsals are Mondays 8-10pm & Thursdays as required in Coalville.


wantage silver band

January 8 • Wantage Band (championship section) has a vacancy for a cornet player, position negotiable, to complete the section. Rehearsals take place every Sunday 7:30pm and Wednesday 8pm in Wantage with highly experienced Musical Director Chris King.
