It's as easy as AYB in Ashton

A new youth band called A-Y-B has been set up in Ashton — and everyone is welcome.

AYB Band

A new youth band has been formed in Ashton under Lyne.

Called Ashton Youth Brass or A-Y-B (The children chose the name after voting at the first rehearsal) the band will be run independently although the main Ashton Under Lyne Band, which has instrumental in setting the new organisation.

Links

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The main band has provided facilities and new instruments and a good "base" to start from scratch. The obvious links are that there are main band players who have kids who play in the youth band.

Long term

"In the long term, as well as the various youth contests, the band would like to register as a Fourth Section band. This means we can call on family members and older players to "fill the seats" although these players wouldn't be eligible for the youth contests but would still be able to be a part of a new venture!"

Looking forward

The band will be conducted by Dean Redfearn who for the last five years has conducted the very successful Boarshurst youth band. Dean is looking forward to this new venture and the main band are also lending their support by coming along to rehearsals to join in and encourage the kids.
