Dodworth riding high again

Dodworth Colliery take to the high contesting seas to win Wilkinsons Northern Open title.

Dodworth

Dodworth Colliery MW Band were once again riding the crest of a wave after another win at the Wilkinsons Northern Open Championships at the weekend.

MD Eliot Darwin chose to perform Goff Richards 'Oceans' in the own choice contest, which resulted in the Band becoming the Section "B" Champion to add to their Section "C" title that they won at the event last year.

Shore leave

Dodworth have also welcomed back onboard Roy Taylor on flugel and his wife Linda on percussion who both return after six months shore leave due to work committments.

New crew

The band have also recently welcomed new members Katy Saxton on Cornet, Morag Mackay on Bb Bass and Hilary Mateer on Eb Bass.

Dodworth Colliery are now steering a course to the Butlins Mineworkers Championships in January.

It's hoped that the results of the band's performances on both the contest and concert stage will hopefully inspire the next generation of Dodworth playersSecretary, Rob Loukes

Positive note

Another positive note for the bands future has been the formation of a Junior/Beginner Band, thanks to the foresight and drive of solo horn player Bob Woffinden.

Secretary Rob Loukes told 4BR: "It's hoped that the results of the band's performances on both the contest and concert stage will hopefully inspire the next generation of Dodworth players."
