Success for Pillowell

Further success for Steve Ruck and his Pillowell Band — thanks in no small part to three lasses on horn...

The Pillowell Silver Band recently entered the annual South West Brass Band Association Contest and walked away with as winners as well as with the Best Horn Section trophy.

Their performance of 'Episodes for Brass' by Gareth Churcher found favour with the adjudicator, Steve Pritchard-Jones and gave the band a huge boost under conductor Steve Ruck.

Spotlight

The horn section consists of Lucy Nelmes, Tessa Broderick, Merla Leopold and Jenny Higgins certainly enjoyed their moment in the spotlight too as the band were awarded 182 points to pip rivals the St. Stythians Band from Cornwall.

Rebuilding

This result comes nicely after the band's recent win at the local GBBA Contest and gives a further boost as they continue to rebuild strongly under the baton of Steve Ruck.
