Aitken calls it a day

Greg Aitken announced his retirement as Musical Director of Brisbane Brass A Grade at rehearsal last night.

Greg Aitken

After 20 years at the helm — ten with Brisbane Brass Juniors and a further ten with the A Grade band, Greg has decided to let someone else continue to develop Australia's largest brass banding organisation.

Brisbane Brass boasts a playing membership in excess of one hundred and forty, spread across four actively contesting bands.

The future

It's time for Greg to spend more time with his family (Liz, Jack and Tom) and his many other work interests.

He will continue his increasing commitment as Director of Brass Band Studies and Lecturer in Euphonium at Griffith University, Queensland Conservatorium and will continue to own and operate The Brass Music Specialists at Graceville.

Greg is also eager to resume playing professionally and his 2009 diary is filling up.
