Results: Danish Nationals

Lyngby-Taarbæk retains Danish National title and books their place for Ostend in 2009.

Lyngby

In front of an enthusiastic crowd Lyngby-Taarbæk Band produced two thrilling accounts of both the set work and their own choice selection to claim the Danish National title for an unprecedented seventh year in a row last weekend.

Title winners

Their performances of Martin Ellerby’s ‘Elgar Variations’, and their own choice of Philip Sparke’s ‘Music for Battle Creek’ saw them take the title ahead of rivals Concord Brass.

Early pace

They had set the early pace at the contest, threatening Lyngby’s title efforts by taking a narrow one point lead into the own choice section after they found f avour with the judges in the set work discipline on the Saturday morning.

in the afternoon Concord failed to impress the box with their controlled performance of ‘Contest Music’, and Lyngby seized the opportunity to strike back and secure the title for the seventh time in row4BR

Impress

However, in the afternoon Concord failed to impress the box with their controlled performance of ‘Contest Music’, and Lyngby seized the opportunity to strike back and secure the title for the seventh time in row.

Third place went to Århus Brass who played ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’.

Second Section

In the Second Section Lyngby Taarbaek’s debuting principal cornet Dennis R. Andersen showed off qualities as a conductor by securing promotion for Frederiksberg Garden.

Third Section

Meanwhile, the Third Section was won by former Danish champions KFUM from Hjørring.

The Day marked the 60th anniversary for the Danish Brass Band Association, with the general impression that the quality of Danish banding is still going up.
